For 36 years, we’ve been waiting for Honda to build another sports car with the magic of the original NSX. And what has Honda been doing?
Apparently, leaving the job to everyone else. Enter JAS Motorsport, which has decided that if the Japanese giant won’t build a new one, it’ll make the old one rather spectacular instead.

Meet the Tensei, a lovingly reimagined NSX created with Pininfarina, the very people who styled the original. And crikey, it looks good.

The iconic pop-up headlights remain, but now feature modern LED lighting, while wider arches and a carbon-fibre body give it the muscular stance the original never quite managed.
Underneath that gorgeous bodywork, things get properly spicy. Judd has transformed the original 3.0-litre V6 into a 3.4-litre screamer producing 414 horsepower.

It revs to 8,500rpm, comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and promises the sort of noise that makes modern turbocharged engines sound like a dishwasher.
At just 1,250kg dry, the Tensei should be an absolute delight on a twisty road. There’s even a titanium gear shifter, because ordinary metal apparently isn’t posh enough.

But here’s the catch. JAS will build just 35 examples, each costing €880,000, before you’ve even bought the donor car.
That’s nearly a million euros for a gloriously reworked Honda. Mad money? Absolutely. Magnificent machine? By the looks of it, you bet.
