Spy Shot: The BMW i3 Touring Electric Estate Is Coming
Auto News

BMW is bringing the estate car into the electric age, and the upcoming i3 Touring looks set to make a compelling case for ditching the SUV.

A lightly camouflaged prototype has recently been spotted testing near BMW’s headquarters, offering a fresh glimpse of the all-electric family hauler ahead of its expected 2027 debut.

The images accompanying this feature are rendered approximations based on de-camouflaged spy shots, giving an impression of how the finished car could look.

Based on BMW’s Neue Klasse architecture, the i3 Touring borrows its front-end styling from the i3 saloon, adding an elongated roofline, sporty rear quarter windows and a redesigned tailgate for easier access to the boot.

This prototype also wears M Sport bumpers, 20-inch alloy wheels and red brake calipers, suggesting practicality needn’t come at the expense of attitude.

Inside, expect the saloon’s futuristic cabin, complete with a 17.9-inch infotainment screen and BMW Panoramic iDrive.

The Touring should also deliver more rear headroom and increased luggage capacity, making it an appealing alternative to the taller iX3 for buyers who prefer their family cars closer to the ground.

Power is expected to mirror the saloon’s dual-motor lineup, ranging from 369 hp to 463 hp, although the estate’s range will likely take a slight hit.

BMW is also preparing a combustion-powered 3-Series Touring, including a 437 hp M350 xDrive. Both wagons are expected in Europe in 2027.
