The Story of The Emily GT EV, The Saab That Never Was
Video

The Emily GT is an EV created from burning embers that was formerly known as Saab. The status of the Emily GT is currently unknown, NEVS an abbreviation for National Electric Vehicle Sweden, acquired the bankrupt assets of Sabb back in 2012. The company is owned by a troubled Chinese conglomerate with interests in real estate. To cut a long story short, NEVS is being placed into a permanent “hibernation mode” to avoid bankruptcy which will essentially liquidate the company.

During its existence, NEVS created Emily GT, an advanced EV prototype with a range of 600 miles courtesy of a massive 172kWh battery. The four electric motors are located within all four wheel assemblies providing a total system power of 424bhp.

Due to the placement of the electric motors in the wheel hub rather than the front or rear axles, there is more space available for a larger battery pack, resulting in a greater range for the vehicle. However financial troubles mean that the Emily GT will be abandoned.

Wll electric vehicle manufacturers will adopt the technology showcased in the Emily GT? Although the concept of in-wheel electric motors is not new, the NEVS Emily GT, featured on Top Gear, offers a captivating tale.
