It looks as though the marketing team for the Polestar 5 had a lot of fun—or a lot of time on their hands—creating a James Bond meets Q parody video for the new Polestar 5. The Polestar press release made a big fuss about the principal actor featured in the video, Hollywood actor Alexander Skarsgård. Actually, he’s from Sweden but has found considerable work and a little bit of fame in Hollywood.

Here at DCB, we knew about the Polestar 5, but had never heard of Alexander Skarsgård, so we did a Google search. Sure enough, he has Hollywood credentials—a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his role in Netflix’s Big Little Lies, which I have never watched.

Now I know who Alexander Skarsgård is because of this Polestar 5 walkaround video. But that doesn’t make me want to buy a Polestar 5. What really motivates me is that it’s the Polestar 5 because it’s a cracking piece of design.

As for the Bond parody: Daniel Craig’s James Bond principally wears Tom Ford suits, with ties often sourced from Turnbull & Asser, fashioned in a Windsor knot. Skarsgård’s portrayal of Bond, by contrast, is loose around the neck and the knot is lazily tied. Craig’s Bond also frequently wears single-breasted, fitted suits.

It’s always in the details—and on that score, this marketing team clearly skipped that lesson.
