The Bentley Batur Convertible has a starting price of $2.5 million. That price reflects its bespoke, coachbuilt, ultra-exclusive nature: only 16 convertibles and 18 coupés will ever be made. The Batur also represents the final Bentley models to use the legendary W12 engine. Bentley’s iconic W12 is a hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged powertrain producing 740 bhp.
A very wealthy individual from Arizona—because of course they are—acquired a Batur and began the personalisation process. It’s all about bespoke this, hand-painted that, gold-plated nonsense, matching stitching details, and a very specific colour palette.
It’s the usual display of a wealthy individual reminding everyone just how much wealth they don’t have. It’s insufferable, and honestly, I don’t see the point. When this person drives the car, how many people are really going to say, “Look at that bespoke, coachbuilt, personalised Bentley Batur”?
I don’t know—maybe it’s bad mood Friday today, and when the weekend’s over I’ll appreciate it by Monday. But right now, I’m really not interested. I guessing we all should be in awe of this pointless, vanity project, one that could be you or I… one day.
Honestly, it’s an out-of-touch vanity piece masquerading as news. If headlines need filling, we’ll do it our own way.
And that’s it. That’s my two cents.
