Poverty Klasse: The “Budget” BMW iX3 That Feels Anything But
Auto News

The BMW iX3 40, —brace yourself—it’s the “entry-level” one. Which, in BMW-speak, still means 320hp, nearly 320 miles of range, and enough charging speed to make your coffee stop feel unnecessarily long.

It’s rear-wheel drive, because apparently BMW still remembers how to have a bit of fun, and it’ll do 0–62mph in 5.9 seconds. Not exactly face-melting, but more than quick enough to embarrass most things away from the lights—silently, of course.

Underneath, it’s all very serious. This is BMW’s shiny new Neue Klasse tech, with an 800V system and clever battery wizardry that’ll add nearly 200 miles of range in 10 minutes if you can find a charger that isn’t already occupied by someone eating a sandwich.

The battery itself is structural, the motor is new, and everything is designed to be lighter, faster, and more efficient. In other words: less old-school BMW, more rolling tech showcase.

And yet, the important bit? It starts at just over £53k, making it the “cheap” one. Which tells you everything you need to know about modern EVs.

So yes, it’s fast, clever, and deeply impressive. But also quietly terrifying, because this is BMW’s idea of the starting point.
