Volvo Launches Long-Range XC60 And XC90 Plug-In Hybrids
Auto News

Volvo Cars has introduced its first long-range plug-in hybrid models for European and American markets, with updated versions of the XC60 and XC90 SUVs offering significantly greater electric driving capability.

The new XC60 can travel up to 124 miles on electric power, while the larger seven-seat XC90 offers up to 99 miles. Both figures represent more than two and a half times the electric range of Volvo’s existing plug-in hybrid variants.

The increase comes from a larger floor-integrated battery and a more powerful electric motor, while a petrol engine provides additional range when required. Volvo says the new models are designed to make everyday journeys, from commuting to family trips, possible with minimal or zero tailpipe emissions.

The XC60 also receives a substantial design and technology update. Exterior changes include a redesigned grille, bumper, bonnet, wheels and Volvo’s latest interpretation of its signature Thor’s Hammer Matrix LED headlights. Inside, a revised dashboard, wood trim and premium Nappa leather create a more luxurious Scandinavian-inspired cabin.

Safety remains central, with upgraded sensing technology supporting features including automatic emergency braking, emergency steering assistance, cyclist alerts, lane-change assistance and a 360-degree camera with 3D view.

The XC90 continues as Volvo’s flagship family SUV, combining seven-seat practicality with premium materials and available Bowers & Wilkins audio.

Orders are now open in selected markets, with production scheduled to begin later this autumn.
