YouTuber and veteran mechanic Scotty Kilmer has raised concerns over alleged transmission problems affecting some Chevrolet and GMC vehicles, following reports of a class-action lawsuit involving continuously variable transmissions (CVTs).

Kilmer revealed the lawsuit alleges that GM knowingly sold vehicles fitted with defective CVTs that could potentially cause a loss of power. The allegations have not been established as fact in court.

He also discusses GM’s planned move to conventional eight-speed automatic transmissions from 2027, while noting that some of those units have reportedly faced separate legal action.

Elsewhere, Kilmer questions the increasing use of aluminium engine blocks, arguing that while they offer weight savings and potential efficiency benefits, they can be more vulnerable to damage from severe overheating than traditional cast-iron designs.

He also examines the upcoming 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid, which uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine.

Kilmer remains sceptical about its long-term durability, although those concerns represent his opinion rather than established reliability findings.
