Lexus LS 500 Updated For 2022, Now Features Equipment
Auto News

The Lexus LS 500 is often overlooked by European buyers because it isn’t a Mercedes S Class and it isn’t a BMW 7 Series. The truth is, the LS 500 is equally as good in its own unique Lexus way. And back in the day the original Lexus LS 500 raised the engineering benchmark which Mercedes and BMW had no other option than to follow. And the LS 500, is still to this day, the better-engineered luxury sedan compared to the S Class and 7 Series. But Lexus has always been left with the tag that it is a facsimile brand, impersonating European luxury motoring, simply incomparable to Mercedes and BMW. I disagree with that notion. And so does Lexus because they carry on regardless.

It is true to say that Mercedes has nailed the latest S Class and in terms of interior luxury, the LS 500 is outgunned. And knowing this Lexus has decided to introduce updates. Although they are minor updates and in all honesty will not address the growing gap between the LS500 and the new S Class they are simply a way, a means to extend the appeal of the LS until the new generation is launched.

The major update pertains to the addition of the Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 which is now standard. It may sound like a newly discovered planetary star system in a distant faraway galaxy, but it actually references a bundled driver assistance package. It includes Intelligent high beams, Lane Assist, Road Sign Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pedestrian and Bicyclist Detection, Pre- Collison system and steering assist, to name but a few.

Entry-level models now get the option of a high-end Mark Levison sound system. The 23 speaker audio power station generates over 2,400 watts.

The Lexus LS 500 is powered by a 416hp 3.5-litre, twin-turbo V6. The 599 Nm of torque enables a 0-62mph time in just 4.5 seconds. Not bad for a luxury barge. So, the updated LS 500 is Lexus offering premium equipment, usually only available for the flagship LS 500 and now distributing it across all trim levels. That’s equality we can all believe in.

Prices for the updated Lexus LS 500 RWD start from $76K and rise to $82K for the high-end LS 500 F Sport AWD.
