China’s First Electric Hypercar The YangWang U9 To Launch on February 25

While the name “YangWang” might evoke laughter among Western audiences, in China, it carries the same weight as prestigious European brands like Audi or Maserati. Established by the automotive giant BYD in 2023, YangWang is poised to enter the luxury automotive Chinese market, with plans underway for a sleek saloon car and an imposing off-roader inspired by the iconic Defender. Leading the charge is the YangWang U9, a flagship electric hypercar boasting a staggering 1,300bhp. This high-performance drug is set to retail for just $150,000, making it an affordable option in the realm of hypercars.

Take, for instance, the Nimac Nevera electric hypercar, boasting over 1,800 bhp and equally impressive torque output. With its mind-bending performance capabilities and a remarkable range of 400 miles on a single charge, this engineering rocketship[ commands a hefty price tag starting at over $3,000,000.

Yangwang U9 Hypercar - Heroic Speed

In contrast, the YangWang U9, powered by a 100kWh battery pack and propelled by quad electric motors, delivers a formidable 1,300 bhp. While its top speed is capped at 186 mph, its acceleration from 0 to 62 mph is accomplished in less than 2 seconds. Furthermore, the U9 is estimated to cover approximately up to 435 miles on a full charge, though real-world figures are yet to prove the manufacturer’s claims.

The YangWang U9 also features an innovative hydraulic suspension system, DiSus-X body control system allows the U9 to jump, tank turn, or drive on three wheels.

YangWang U9 Set For February 2024 Launch Window

BYD utilises a dealership model, however with its YangWang brand BYD built 80 purpose-built stores across China in 2023, with plans for further expansion throughout 2024. Last year BYD acquired multiple stores and service centers previously operated by Aston Martin, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. A further 22 stores were opened in November in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Chengdu.

The official launch of the YangWang U9 is scheduled for November 24, 2024. Its unveiling not only represents innovation but also underscores China’s rapid progress and expansion within the EV industry. China is quickly outstripping its Western EV competitors in terms of development and innovation, surpassing even established legacy automotive brands, with the notable exception of Tesla.
