Mercedes-AMG Developing Fully In-House High-Performance EV SUV
Auto News

For the first time in its 57-year history, Mercedes-AMG is independently developing a high-performance SUV, named “Born in Affalterbach” and built on the AMG.EA electric platform. This new all-electric off-roader, designed entirely in-house, represents a major milestone for the Affalterbach brand, with test drives for development models scheduled to begin this winter.

AMG has been a pioneer in the high-performance SUV segment since launching the ML 55 AMG over 25 years ago. Today, Mercedes-AMG offers a robust lineup of six SUV models, including the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, and EQE SUV, with the Mercedes-AMG G 63 as the crown jewel of its off-roader lineup.

This full-size electric SUV will be the second model on the AMG.EA high-performance platform, joining a lineup that includes the GT, SL, and SLS models. With the “AMG First, EV Second” philosophy, the Born in Affalterbach SUV aims to capture AMG’s essence of emotion, performance, and high-quality electric vehicle (EV) engineering, providing customers with an authentic AMG experience in an EV framework.
