RUF is a German tuning company specialising in modifying the Porsche 911. It began in 1939 as a garage service business before evolving into the renowned manufacturer it is today. The company remains deeply rooted in the past—specifically the 1990s—as it continues to produce the 993 model on its own dedicated production line, built from the ground up to its own specifications.
A 1998 RUF CTR 2 Sport is currently up for auction in the United States, with an eye-watering estimated price of $3,000,000 to $3,500,000. It’s hard to say why it’s valued so highly—after all, you could buy a brand-new RUF for significantly less. But a sensible world means nothing to a passionate car collector with money to burn.

Broad Arrow Auctions in Michigan is offering a rare 1998 RUF CTR 2 Sport at its Monterey Jet Center Auction. Originally unveiled in 1995, the CTR 2 was RUF’s second-generation high-performance model and the first road-legal RUF sold in the U.S. Based on the Porsche 993 chassis, it featured a 580-hp twin-turbocharged 3.6L flat-six engine and could reach 217 mph, making it the world’s fastest production car at the time.

The CTR 2 Sport was a lighter, more aggressive, track-focused evolution, with only 14 produced out of 29 total CTR 2s. The example up for auction, chassis no. W09BC0360WPR06007, is one of just four equipped with all-wheel drive. Originally owned by Frank Beddor, it was later upgraded at the RUF factory with a green leather interior and Bilstein suspension.
Showing just 16,679 miles and recently serviced by RUF North America, this ultra-rare supercar exemplifies RUF’s signature blend of extreme performance and daily usability.
