“It is the best car I’ve ever driven,” says MKBHD of the McLaren W1.

But is it really the best car ever? More importantly, how can he confidently claim that the W1 is the best car he has ever driven when the greatest car ever made probably hasn’t been built yet?

There will always be a better car than the W1—it simply hasn’t been created yet. So how can MKBHD declare that the McLaren W1 is the greatest car he has ever driven?

Surely the W1 will one day be superseded by, for the sake of argument, a hypothetical W2. If and when that happens, will the W2 be the better car, or will the W1 remain the benchmark?

No one can say for certain. But when you have access to a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing around 900bhp on its own, combined with a state-of-the-art hybrid system that contributes a further 342bhp, delivering a total system output of 1,242bhp and astonishing levels of torque, it’s easy to understand why MKBHD was so impressed.
