Bentley has finally plugged into the future – and it has done so in typically extravagant fashion. Meet the new Bentley Torcal, the brand’s first fully electric SUV, combining old-school craftsmanship with enough electric firepower to embarrass plenty of supercars.

Built on Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform, the Torcal sits just below the Bentayga but offers a remarkably spacious cabin.

Two versions are available, including the astonishing 888bhp Torcal S First Edition. With up to 1,350Nm of torque, it can launch from 0–60mph in just 2.9 seconds.

But this Bentley isn’t simply about going absurdly quickly. Inside, it’s a rolling showcase of luxury, with beautifully finished leather and wood, wool trim from Fox Brothers, a huge curved OLED screen and an augmented-reality head-up display.

Even the doors are electrically operated, while a 1,780-watt audio system ensures your favourite soundtrack gets the treatment it deserves.

The 108kWh battery offers up to 375 miles of range, while 400kW charging means a 10–80 per cent top-up can take just 16 minutes.

And then there’s that grille. Enormous, illuminated and unmistakably Bentley. Whether it’s brilliantly bold or slightly bonkers, one thing is certain: the electric Bentley has arrived.
