There are few things more gloriously unnecessary than taking a perfectly good sports car and chopping its roof about.

Which is precisely what’s happened. Meet the Z Kaze, revealed at the 2026 ZCON, and named after the Japanese word for wind.

Yes, wind. Specifically, the sort of wind that arrives when you’re hammering along California’s Pacific Coast Highway with the roof in the boot and absolutely no concern for your hairstyle.

The Kaze is a passion project celebrating seven generations of Z cars, with a healthy dose of 1990s tuner culture thrown into the blender.

Its party trick is a custom-engineered T-top roof, while the Pacific Teal paint, carbon-fibre bonnet, flared arches and bespoke aero kit give the Z a suitably old-school Japanese performance-car attitude.

Then there are the wheels. An original set of 18-inch NISMO LMGT2s was tracked down and painstakingly restored. They’re 10 inches wide up front and a frankly silly 11 inches at the rear.

Underneath, NISMO suspension upgrades meet a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 fettled with GReddy hardware, including a SUPREME SP exhaust, intercooler and Airinx air filter.

Inside, white leather and carbon fibre replace the usual concept-car gloom, while Bose headrest speakers ensure your soundtrack survives roof removal.

No, the world didn’t desperately need another T-top. But that’s rather the point.
