Elon Musk Presents the Tesla Cybertruck
It’s Alive! Tesla Cybertruck Is Finally Entering Production
Auto News

When Elon Musk revealed the Cybertruck prototype in 2019 he bullishly said it would enter production in two years. Four years later the Cybertruck is finally preparing to enter production, however, it will take many years to fulfil the 1 million pre orders. The distinctive angular design and straight lines of the Cybertruck may appear deceptively simple, but the reality is that the stainless steel body poses numerous production challenges. The cost and welding difficulties associated with stainless steel necessitate the development of new production techniques to ensure a streamlined manufacturing process.

As the new production techniques are implemented, it will require time to fine-tune and perfect them. During the initial stages of production, a trial and error approach will likely be employed to iron out any issues before scaling up to meet the desired production volume. This iterative process may have implications for the price of the Cybertruck.

Tesla Cybertruck production begins

Initially, Tesla aimed to offer an entry-level model starting at $40,000 for a single motor variant, with the price increasing to $50,000 for the dual motor version. However, the challenges and adjustments in production may influence the final pricing of the Cybertruck as Tesla strives to balance cost-efficiency with delivering a high-quality product to its customers.

It is highly probable that the entry-level price of the Cybertruck will increase to $50,000. This assumption is supported by the fact that Tesla removed pricing and specification details from the Cybertruck’s landing page in 2021, suggesting that price adjustments are in the works. During a recent shareholder meeting, Elon Musk mentioned the Cybertruck, indicating that:

“It’s going to be hard to make the cost affordable because it is a new car, new manufacturing method. In the grand scheme of things, relative to the production rate of all the other cars we make, it will be small. But it’s still very cool.”
