Unofficial Renders Hint At Sleek New BMW 6 Series Return
Auto News

You may remember the 6 Series. It was the car BMW used to prove it could do “long, low, fast, and slightly smug” better than most, before it quietly shuffled off in 2019 to make room for the 8 Series. And now that the 8 Series has also been put back in its box, rumours are swirling that the 6 is coming back out again, like a grand touring vampire that refuses to stay buried.

The interesting bit is what it might look like. Early, unofficial renders suggest BMW is dressing the new car in its so-called Neue Klasse design language—think slimmed-down, futuristic styling with a front end that’s less “buck-toothed executive saloon” and more “laser-cut concept car that escaped from a motor show stand.”

The grille has been reduced to something more tasteful and horizontal, the headlights blend into it like they’ve all agreed to behave themselves, and the whole nose sits much cleaner than some of BMW’s more… enthusiastic recent efforts.

Down the sides, it’s classic grand tourer proportions: long bonnet, sweeping roofline, the sort of shape that quietly suggests you should probably be driving to the south of France rather than Tesco.

At the back, it stays fairly restrained—slim lights, tidy diffuser, nothing shouting too loudly or trying to win a nightclub entrance competition.

Of course, it’s all still hypothetical. BMW hasn’t officially confirmed anything, which means this could be a future 6 Series—or just another beautifully rendered “what if” that never sees the light of day.

But if it does arrive like this, it’ll be BMW doing what it does best: taking a perfectly good idea, putting it in a suit, sharpening its cheekbones, and sending it out into the world to look faintly superior on the motorway.
